Salam,
All praise be to Allah SWT for inspiring me to write this piece of mind.
Sometimes we let emotions rule us.
That blocks our ability to think objectively.
Why, I wonder that we give in more to emotions rather than logic, sense & objectivity?
Rather than be as calm as possible and pray to Allah SWT so that we can be calmly guided & find out why our assistant made a mistake in her work, we shout at her. We ask her why, how come, who, when and many many more whys...
If that assistant has a wit like a lawyer and nothing to lose, then she'll probably outsmart us. But she'd be polite, apologetic and won't look at us in the eye or stares blankly at our face with her mind going with whatever negative thoughts in her head.
What if we be calm, knowing that we too have had our moment being on the other side of the desk. It was painful for us at that moment, right?
Wouldn't you want for someone not to go through the experience?
I think as a decent human being, we wouldn't want to.
But not when we are emotional. By emotional, I mean being angry. We let that anger control our ability to think rationally.
So we tell her that is a mistake - eventhough it could be a big one - but maybe we can keep that anger in check for a bit before it throws in the superlatives - like her mistake is going to cause someone getting hurt. We use words like 'negligence', 'professionalism', 'common sense' for what purpose exactly? To vent? Obviously.
We want that assistant. Otherwise we won't be needing one and can do everything ourselves.
So why can't we be nice and acknowledge that it is a mistake and screaming about it won't solve the problem.
The assistant is a human being. A person. She may be proud that she's working with us. I mean him too...
Note : When I say female assistant, I don't mean just from the steno pool. Even your assistant who is one notch below your pay grade is an assistant...
Even you're an assistant to someone and that someone etc etc... to the top of the food chain..
We can try to be rational. Rationality solves problems, with Allah SWT's guidance. Emotions, hmmm... that's a tough one.. it's everywhere poking-poking, the work of the devil.
May Allah SWT protect us from the devil. Amin.
You'd probably be thinking that I'm writing this is as a non-fiction. Yeah. Another one of those days but silver lining is.. it made me a better person, Alhamdulillah and I hope and pray to Allah SWT that I'll continuously be a better person, insha Allah.
Happy Assistant Day, folks. Even the vice boss is still an assistant to the boss.
Allah SWT knows best.
Thank you for reading.
May we all be guided by Allah SWT. insha Allah. Amin.
Peace,
Wassalam,
