Truth?

Salam,

This is a work of fiction.

All praise be to Allah SWT for inspiring me to write this piece of mind.

do we lie? probably not. do we not tell the truth? maybe half of the time.

half of the time? explain.

we filter the things we are about to say to people because we don't want to hurt their feelings. true or false?

true.

.... because we are scared of the feedback we're about to receive - especially when we give them bad news. true or false?

true. explain more please.

.... because we keep some of the truth to ourselves for what ever reasons. Maybe to trick the person for what ever reason. Maybe we don't want the people to know our true intentions.

Let's say a bank offers you an attractive interest-rate personal loan, and you believe that you can really use the money for some emergency reasons. So, it's basically a supply-and-demand thing, which in this case the demand is severe compared to the supply. You need the bank more than the bank needs you. They can skip your name on the screen and go calling your brother who is in the same dire straits as you, insha Allah.

Okay.. let's say the brother got the loan and managed to ease his burden and you notice that he's rather okay now compared to last month and while having tea, he told you that he managed to get a personal loan from bank XXX. You got curious and will probably ask yourself, "why didn't they contact me? I need money as much as my brother!"

true intentions... since you're desperate, you will say Name in Full, I.C Number et cetera....  after listening to the robot saying "Your conversation is being recorded for whatever whatever...?"

you'll agree to everything, the interest rate... you no longer care about the those digits in the past when you don't need the aid - back then when you were okay, financially. The unexpected happens - as a test from Allah SWT and...

interest rate, everything. I NEED THE MONEY.

And Alhamdulillah, it was approved, those forms they give you got all the details and there's a loan agreement with those schedules of payment.. you sign them without reading line after line. without understanding everything. your mind is directing your eyeballs to look for something - something really really important - which is the...

X.............................................. (sign here)

Nothing more is ever important to you. Imagine it's the most important piece of document you have to sign under these direst circumstances. you put the tip of the pen down... start moving your fingers and palm in such a dramatic view when watched in slo-mo..... and no ink.

"Can I borrow your pen, please?" - expressed

"Please please please.... i need your pen... pleassseee" - probably intended but not expressed.

Okay, here's the pen. You smiled a little and began signing. Well you gotta sign, bubba. The money is already in your account and you don't wanna sign? You think you can return the money? Can you? I don't know. I only know how to take money out from the ATM and a bit bit about housing loan, car loan...etc...

And it is done deal. And you managed to ease the burden there.

Maybe you're smart - keep some of the money to service the installment - maybe one installment or two. We don't know long before a permanent solution arrives us. The loan is just a live-saver. But once we're servicing the loan, we'll be in trouble, still but not as bad as it was a few months ago.

The bank knows that. They're not stupid. They're BANKERS. Everything is calculated - I don't know what's 'Everything' means coz me no banker - but they won't leave things to chance. I don't know who they hire to come up with a so-called fool-proof system that calculated all the risks.

You are a numbered man.

You don't wear in on the back of your shirt. You wear it in the computer somewhere.

They probably can tell by the tone of your voice that you're desperate. So over the phone, they quickly run through the numbers, the interest rate per annum daily rest basis and whatever whatever because that's their standard operating procedure.

Did they tell the truth? Yes they did. Is the truth okay with you? I don't know. I just need the money.

Lets say you don't need the money, you can play around with them when they call you. You can test them a bit. You can play hard to get or you can politely say to them thank you for your offer and calling but i'm okay for now. If they persist, just tell them that you're servicing some loans and (you need to have the time and patience) tell them with this economy you have to be prudent and there's nothing urgent at the moment.

Pity those guys and gals who calls you. They probably have missed their commission because you said no (but there'll be other means to get the commission, insha Allah).

But there is a difference between saying 'no' politely and... whatever else that's not considered as polite.

So, that's is the truth. Am I telling you the truth? Insha Allah, from the way I look at it.

But remember that your version of truth could be a misrepresented by how i see your version of truth. And not forgetting - how to tell the truth to people.

But that is another subject altogether. A different time and a different state of mind.

The absolute truth? It's in the Al-Qur'an.

Allah SWT knows best.

May we all be guided by Allah SWT. Insha Allah. Amin.

Peace,

Wassalam,

Safety Factor Might Not Be Safe - Story of the Flow, Head and Running Amps

Safety Factor Might Not Be Safe Salam, I know all of you Mechys and Civils here have seen this chart. It tells you a bunch of stuff. One of the most important stuff would be how flow, Q increases with the lowering of the head, H, and vice versa along the pump curve. The power input to the pump, P2 increases with the increase in Q. If you oversize the H in the design, the actual H during operation will be lower than the H at the red dot there. Oversizing H is caused the fear that your pressure may be inadequate. So you put in a high safety factor (SF) to total pipe length (straight pipe length + equivalent length), static head difference and residual pressure. But in actual operation, the H is much lower, (one of the reasons being that the pipe is new) which causes the Q to increase (follow the pump curve line to the right). See what happens to the power curve in the chart below the pump curve. There is an increase in P2. In the post earlier, what happened during T&C was...
